Clicks are not
customers.
More Google clicks and more AI mentions feel like progress. Whether they bring customers is a separate question, and it can only be answered from your own contact records, tagged by the page and channel they came from.
Keep them
apart.
- Impressions and clicks come from Google Search Console. A click is a visit, not an enquiry.
- AI mentions and citations come from saved answers. A name in an answer is not a visit.
- Contact taps come from your analytics: someone pressed WhatsApp, call or email. A tap is not a sent message.
- Enquiries come from the messages and calls you actually received. Only these pay the bills.
Each number can move without the others. Reporting them as one score hides the part that matters.
More clicks,
fewer messages.
In September 2026 the owner of Ang Brothers Funeral Services asked why enquiries had gone quiet. In matched six-day windows, 7 to 12 September against 14 to 19 September, Google clicks in Singapore were broadly steady, while first-party contact taps fell from 20 to 7. Taps are not confirmed enquiries, but the comparison showed that more search traffic over the summer had not guaranteed more contact that week. The full record keeps the Search Console figures separate.
The lesson is to look at contact by page and channel before concluding that search is, or is not, working.
Every contact link
names its page.
Add the source page to every WhatsApp link, so the first message arrives with the page the customer was reading. Four Solutions did this for all 195 WhatsApp links on its site on 23 September 2026, so a mould enquiry can be told apart from a termite one.
Track calls and email taps as events in your analytics, and give forms a hidden source field. Exclude your own test taps, or a test day will look like a busy week.
Links from ChatGPT search carry utm_source=chatgpt.com, according to OpenAI’s publisher FAQ, so those visits can be separated in your analytics.
A weekly table
is enough.
Each week, count contact taps by channel (WhatsApp, call, email, form) and by source page, then check them against the messages you actually received. At Four Solutions, analytics counted 3, 5 and 6 contact taps per week from AI assistants between 24 September and 9 October 2026. Small numbers, but they show which pages and assistants send people.
Compare equal windows, such as the same weekdays, and note anything unusual: a public holiday, an advertising campaign or a website change.
Judge by enquiries,
report the rest.
Search and AI visibility are worth paying for when they lead to enquiries you can trace. Clicks and mentions explain why enquiries moved; they are not the result. If clicks rise and enquiries do not, look at the pages people land on and the contact route before spending more on traffic.
Tendou reports clicks, AI answers and contact events separately for every client and does not combine them into one score. How we measure explains the record format.

Send your website and the contact channels you use. We will check whether each channel records its source page before proposing any visibility work.
